Black Isle House, Mulbuie
Around 16 years ago I was looking for a joinery contractor to build and erect the timber frame for my own house in Edderton. That was when I met who would later become a client and over the intervening years we would work on a number of projects together, including a house extension, the conversion of a commercial building into flats, obtaining Planning Permission for House Plots and then this project: a new build home on the Black Isle.
Over the years we have worked for many joiners on their own homes, and we take this as a sign that they must like working with us and that our drawings are comprehensive. For us, working for a contractor is also great experience as they generally work on a wide range of projects and bring a lot of information to the project in terms of materials that are available and in particular the most efficient ways to build.
This house has a beautiful open plan area that is flooded with natural light. The client wanted the feature trusses and these really add to the character of the living space, as does the wood burning stove that is centred on the gable and flanked by large windows.
There are two features that I believe really make this house. One is the Kitchen, which is just stunning! The other is the Car Port, as this allows you to park under cover and have access straight into the Boot Room.
I think my next house might be a lot like this one…..
