Rainbows’ End, Dornoch

This is certainly one of our favourite projects to date and the house was featured on Scotland’s Home of the Year on BBC Scotland in 2020. It reached the final on the TV series and we were treated to a day out to attend the for filming this in Glasgow. Prior to featuring on TV this project was awarded the President’s Medal on 2017 from the Inverness Architects Association (IAA) who are the local chapter of the RIAS.

This project began with an existing 3-bedroom house that our clients wanted to transform into a larger property that took full advantage of the truly breath-taking views over Loch Fleet in Sutherland. The scheme design proposal featured a new Sun Lounge and Covered Outdoor Room so the view could be appreciated whether sitting inside or out. The open-plan Lounge and Kitchen was enlarged, as were the windows looking out from these principal spaces. To the rear of the house a new Garage and Car Port were added, and a large Master Bedroom was formed. The roof was re-covered in natural slate instead of concrete tiles and the entire house was insulated to current standards and new window installed to improve energy efficiency. Finally, a new pellet boiler heating system was installed.

The works truly transform the property and the significant input from our clients certainly contributed to the finished product. This is a house our client continue to love and we always smile when we get to talk about the project or when we catch up with them.
